TRAFFIC CALMING
Action is now in hand to install a sleeve on the C17 at Stoney Cross. A SID (Speed Indicating Device) will be positioned here at random times which it is hoped will help slow down traffic.
POTHOLE REPAIRS
The snow and freezing weather we experienced during February caused detrimental affects on the road network across the Country. Many local authorities are experiencing increased reports of potholes developing on their roads. Hampshire roads have not escaped the effects of this and HCC is experiencing more potholes than it would normally expect.
A pothole forms when water gets into the road structure and then freezes. This causes the water to expand and the surface of the road breaks open. Although this can happen on any road surface, it generally tends to affect rural roads more as they have generally evolved from tracks and their construction has a thinner layer of bituminous material when compared to urban roads which have generally been designed.
HCC and its Councillors place great importance on the maintenance of roads as they are an important asset that provides accessibility for Hampshire residents. If you know of any potholes (or any other places where road repairs are urgent) please report them to the Parish Council Clerk, Liz Green, at lizgreen@minstead.gov.uk or on 8081 2981 who who will act as a focal point for the Village pass on the information to the County Council.
RUNNING HILL
A growing number of dangerous incidents have been reported on the Running Hill-A31 junction. These include vehicles trying to rejoin A31 westbound and in at least one case driving back down the A31 eastbound towards the Cadnam roundabout in the face of oncoming traffic. Hampshire County Council, NFDC and the Highways Agency have all agreed to take the necessary action to close this junction, supported by the Parish Council whose desire is to avoid injury or loss of life.
UPPER CANTERTON HGV RESTRICTION
An Experimental Order has been proposed to reduce HGV traffic along the road from Brook to the Walter Tyrell public house. The intended effect is to permit over width vehicles (including caravans and delivery vehicles) to access the pub and camp site from any direction but to require them to leave the pub and camp site in a southerly direction only. Following consultation and subject to no objections from the Police this will be implemented by the NFDC and comments sought.
